Abhir S. Salaskar, our student in Grade VI at Radcliffe Group of Schools, Thane, recently made waves with his remarkable achievement in the Ram Setu Open Water Swimming Expedition. The expedition, spanning across the 23-kilometre sea bridge between Talaimannar, Sri Lanka, and Dhanushkodi, India, was a momentous occasion for Abhir and his team as they successfully completed the challenging event on the 4th of May 2024.
This prestigious expedition was not just about the physical feat of swimming across the Palk Strait but also held deep symbolic significance. Organised to pay homage to Lord Rama at his birthplace in Ayodhya and to honour the newly constructed Ram Temple, the event was truly historic. Abhir, along with 11 other young swimmers between the ages of 11 and 18, participated in the “Ram Setu Expedition” in a relay pattern.
Undertaking this daunting international swimming event was no small feat. The expedition was jointly organised by Sri Lankan authorities and the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Association under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu State Amateur Aquatic Association. Abhir’s courage, determination, and skill were on full display as he navigated through the challenging waters, showcasing his exceptional talent and spirit of perseverance.
Our student’s incredible achievement not only brings pride to the Radcliffe Group of Schools but also sets a shining example for young aspiring swimmers everywhere. His dedication and passion for swimming have not only propelled him to success but have also solidified his place as a role model for his peers and future generations. Congratulations to Abhir on this outstanding accomplishment in the realm of open water swimming. His journey through the challenging waters of the Ram Setu exemplifies the power of determination and tenacity in the face of formidable challenges.
